Visit the Archive

Come and discover the new home of the Historical Archive inside the former Augustinian Convent: a place of memory open to the city, where past and present meet.

Here you can download the complete inventory in PDF format, which allows you to explore the structure of the entire archival collection and check which materials can be consulted on site.

To ensure the best service, we recommend booking an appointment. To do so, please complete the request form available on this page and send it by email only to the following address:

Browse the Virtual Archive

Explore the digitised collections, access thematic pathways, and be inspired by the stories that emerge from the records. The Archive is alive — even online.

The Virtual Archive is the result of years of work in recovery, reorganisation and detailed description in line with national archival standards. Thanks to the Archive and the City project, a representative selection of documents has been digitised, making part of the holdings accessible online. The wider process of reorganisation and digitisation of the entire collection is still ongoing.

I can’t find the document I need online. What should I do?

You can send a request via the online form or get in touch with us: we’ll be happy to help you schedule a consultation at the Archive.

I’m tracing my family history. Can you help me?

The Historical Archive holds civil status registers (births, marriages, deaths) from around 1809 to 1900.
Original copies of these registers, transferred from the Municipalities to the Courts as required by law, are also preserved at the State Archive of Lecce and are available online via the Portale Antenati.

Please note that in some cases these registers differ slightly from those we hold: while they contain the same personal data, the registers preserved at the former Augustinian Convent include handwritten annotations not found in the digital versions.

Do I need authorisation to use the documents for editorial or creative purposes?

Yes. Any use other than personal research must be authorised. Please contact us for all the information you need.
